Hokkaido Puppy Retar is Available for Placement

I am offering 10 week old Retar for placement. He is my pick Hokkaido puppy from this breeding for type and temperament. I do have 3 intact boys already so I need to place him with a cooperative home who would like to be included in the breed preservation project. He is the white pup with red tones. Retar has a very outgoing, happy, resilient, friendly personality and he likes spending time with people and other dogs. He does a happy howl greeting which is common with this breed. He will make a very nice pet for a person who wants an active dog to take on walks, hikes, swimming, or agility classes. He would also do well in dog shows for a beginner or for fun. He would do best with people who are able to include him in daily activities more often then leave him by himself. He is up to date on vaccines, wormed, microchipped, and started on potty and leash training. Email inquiries to info@hokkaidoken.org

Hokkaido Puppies are 9 Weeks Old and 2 New Owners, Pup for Sale

The puppy named Rakko is now renamed Genjiro (Genji) and is settling into his new home. He is rather dapper in his Halloween costume, and his new parents and Shiba sibling are all very excited to have him home.

image

He was such a pleasure here, very helpful with showing doggy Grandma how to do yard work.

image

It was also very very nice to meet up with Yezo and Angela and Jun again so Genji’s new family can get a good idea about what he will look like when he is a big boy. Yezo and his Kai sisters remembered me and had a good romp in the back 40 after their long drive from Canada.

The first report indicates Genji is settling in well.

And chunky Yukar, the most mellow puppy of the Hokkaido Legion, has landed himself a wonderful new Dad who hopes to bring him to the office. His first training session is tomorrow and I think he will make a great little office guest.

image

And thank you for the Bully Sticks! Genko thinks these are manna from Heaven and these buy me 30 minutes to 1 hour of quiet puppies.

She is such an easy to please dog…

And this week we could use some Wellness Puppy KIbbles if anyone is inclined to donate, as well as busy puppy crate training toys like Kongs: Amazon Hokkaido Puppy Wishlist

As always, Genko and the puppies enjoy every one of these generous donations and we would like to send a token of our thanks, so if you have made a donation, please provide me with an address so Genko and pups can show you their appreciation (email to info@hokkaidoken.org)

Lastly, puppy Retar is still available on a conditional placement for the right home.

8 Weeks Old Hokkaido Puppies, Puppy for Placement

I have decided to offer my pick male puppy to a cooperative home and keep his sister Umma, as my current boys won’t be tolerant of another male inside. He has everything I think a nice puppy of any breed should have (outgoing, sweet, sociable, resilient, confident, nice structure, loves to please and loves to work) and he has nice breed type. He is the first puppy to do new things and the first to explore, very bold and ready to take on any challenges. I would love to see him in a home who wants to do some performance work with him as he has all the makings of a very nice worker. Accepting inquiries for this puppy at info@hokkaidoken.org

Puppies are over 8 weeks now, and had their first Vet visit. All are healthy with out hernias, all bites are good, no heart murmurs and all the boys have their testicles. Umma has come with me to Flyball class and has a great little personality. Rakko (now Genji) and Yukar are leaving this coming weekend to local homes and it will be nice getting to see them as they grow. They have been spending more time playing with their mom and the Shibas and learning good doggy manners.

As it has been so rainy here and cold, their outdoor time has been somewhat confined to the covered areas of the yard, but they enjoy it all the same. An important lesson I have learned (oh so many things learned with this one litter already) is that 6 Hokkaido puppies at this age is too many in a group, so splitting them up into two play groups allows me to better manage them individually. They are learning about impulse control and waiting at doors and that keeping their feet on the ground gets them rewards. Such smart little puppies and so eager to please.

And thank you Ben for the awesome supplies of a covered puppy pen and toys:

7 Weeks Old Hokkaido Puppies and Updates

First news: the club has ordered some promotional materials for the upcoming Nihon Ken Invitational. It will be the first time a Hokkaido has ever been shown in the US, which is exciting.

Genko is getting her pre-baby body back, but the hairs are slow coming in. She enjoys wearing her Ruffwear coat from her perch on top of the car after a round of chase with her Shiba friend, Marko:

And lastly, our Amazon wishlist link https://amzn.com/w/35CA4TV83KTJO. This week we are running low on extra large puppy pads, and will be needing some bully sticks for the rainy days that have hit us. Puppies (and the poor Shiba toys) will also appreciate some extra durable toys like Kongs and nylabones.

Puppy Visitors

Puppies received several visitors today, with a very special guest appearance by the 1st Hokkaido I ever met, the one who really charmed my socks off, the famous Meitou (and his wonderful mom). Genko has met them both before, and was careful to remind Meitou about her personal space bubble. And Meitou totally ignored her 😉

He was really great with the puppies and it was exciting to compare all 8 Hokkaido to each other…a very nice opportunity!

Lastly, today was Christmas for the Hokka pups and Genko when we opened the very thoughtful and generous wishlist packages. I was speechless at the generosity! Thank you sooo much Karilyn and Cam! Also thank you Jen, I know the puppies enjoyed your tasty shoes. And a big thank you to Wendy for getting to know my dogs today, and most especially for your quick thinking (words cannot express what that means to me).

A more detailed puppy progress report will be provided within the next few days. They are really becoming their own dogs!

3 Little Pigs in a Blanket

Puppies are 6 weeks old this weekend and we are looking forward to some more special visitors. We are also keeping our paws crossed for some big news on the horizon (several big news’ actually). Anyways, some pretty big deal things  coming up for HANA and we are so greatful for all the support received to date. To conclude, a photo of three of the puppies being ferried about the house and outside in an Outward Hound puppy sling while I do chores:

And momma Genko getting away with breakfast murder by charming doggy grandma after snatching her bagel off the counter. It’s hard to be angry at her!

Never Feed After Midnight…

…unless you want a giant mess to wake up to.  Anyways, all the puppies, now 5 weeks old, got their first bath and I am impressed.  Not one sound or attempt to struggle, and I was able to even bathe two at a time in the sink…and they liked it! They are fully transitioned to eating Wellness kibbles and canned and are eager eaters. I find it’s easier to predict when they have to go when they have controlled feedings and set meal times, so now we really are working hard for potty training. Genko still feeds them 1-2 times a day, but she is a small dog and her body appreciates the rest.
